Do you want to upload your podcast on Spotify? If yes, you’re at right place.
In this article, I’m going to walk you through the process of uploading your podcast to Spotify, completely free of charge, and in just three simple steps.
We’re going to do this together, so let’s get started!
How to Upload Your Podcast to Spotify?
Step 1: Create a Spotify for Podcasters Account
First things first, you’ll need an account with Spotify for Podcasters. Don’t worry—it’s free and doesn’t require a credit card.
Here’s how to sign up:
- Go to podcasters.spotify.com and click on Get Started.
- You’ll be given two options:
- Start a podcast from scratch.
- If you already have a podcast hosted elsewhere, you can switch to Spotify for Podcasters or simply create an account to access advanced features and detailed analytics.
For this tutorial, we’re going with the option to start a podcast from scratch.
Creating Your Account:
- If you already have a Spotify account, you can sign in using your existing credentials or even a Google account.
- For those new to Spotify, just create a new account.
Personally, I already have an account for our podcast, Content Jefe, so I’ll log in using my credentials.
Once you’re logged in, you’ll be taken to Spotify for Podcasters, formerly known as Anchor.
If you’re wondering why you can’t upload your podcast directly to Spotify, let’s clarify that next.
Step 2: Upload Your Podcast to Spotify for Podcasters
Why Do You Need a Podcast Hosting Service?
Good question!
To distribute your podcast on platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts, you need a podcast hosting service.
This service stores your MP3 files, cover art, and other podcast details. Plus, it automates the distribution of your podcast across different platforms.
Spotify actually acquired Anchor.fm, which was a free podcast hosting service, and rebranded it as Spotify for Podcasters.
This is why you’ll need to create an account and upload your podcast here for it to stream on Spotify.
Ready to Upload? Here’s How:
After logging in, click on Continue to the App.
Email Verification: Spotify for Podcasters will send you a verification email. Once verified, you’re ready to upload your first episode.
On the next screen, click on Let’s Do It.
Upload Your Episode: You’ll now be prompted to upload the audio file of your podcast episode.
Don’t Have an Episode Yet?
That’s okay!
Spotify for Podcasters allows you to record and edit directly from your browser or download the app to record using your smartphone.
You can even record your podcast like a professional with a good microphone and headphones in a sound-treated space.
Once you’ve recorded your episode, it’s time to upload it.
Uploading Your Episode:
- Click the Upload button or simply drag and drop your files.
- Supported Formats: Spotify for Podcasters supports both audio and video files, so if you have a video podcast, you can upload that too.
- After uploading, add the title, description, and any other details like the season, episode number, or whether it’s a trailer or a regular episode.
Step 3: Publish and Distribute Your Podcast
You’ve made it to the final step—posting and distributing your podcast!
Publishing Your Podcast:
- Once all the details are in, hit Publish.
- Your podcast will automatically be distributed to Spotify—no extra work needed.
Alternatively, you can schedule your episode to be published at a later date if that works better for you.
Personally, I like to hit publish immediately, because—why not?
Checking Your Podcast on Spotify:
After hitting publish, check Spotify to see your new episode live.
Why Should You Upload Your Podcast to Spotify?
Spotify is one of the biggest platforms for podcasts, boasting over 36 million listeners and growing.
The app makes it easy for users to discover new podcasts, thanks to features like:
- Podcast Swipe Up: Similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels, this feature recommends podcasts to users based on their listening habits.
This means your podcast could be suggested to new audiences, growing your listener base significantly!
Recording a Video Podcast with Your Smartphone
If you’re ready to take things up a notch and start recording video podcasts, it’s totally possible with just your smartphone. Whether you’re using your phone as a camera or a webcam, remember that audio quality is key.
