You can easily remove noise and echo from your voice recordings in seconds for free with this AI Tool called Adobe Podcast AI Enhance Speech.
While the name might suggest it’s only suitable for podcasting, I’ve discovered it offers a lot more than expected, especially for enhancing various types of audio recordings.
However, after using it on a few different things, I’ve been pretty blown away by it.
What is Adobe Podcast AI?
Adobe Podcast AI is an audio enhancement tool by Adobe designed to improve the quality of voice recordings. It uses artificial intelligence to clean up and enhance audio by reducing background noise, adjusting audio levels, and making voices clearer.
However, I think it might have actually gone under the radar for just how powerful it is in helping with all kinds of different audio tasks.
There is a paid version, but there’s also a completely free version, which I want to show you today.
Enhance Speech Tool
Adobe Podcast offers a bunch of different tools, but the one I’m interested in is the Enhance Speech tool.
You can use this on voiceovers, podcasts, or any kind of dialogue recording that you’ve done. I’ve had some pretty amazing results with it.
Now, I don’t particularly recommend using this tool to mix your audio for you.
I think you still want to do a lot more manual work on it than that. But I found that for fixing audio that seemed kind of lost beyond repair, it has actually produced some pretty amazing results.
We’re going to jump into the computer, and I’ll show you the interface, along with a bunch of different clips I’ve recorded.
We’ll test it out, put it through its paces, and see what we come up with.
How to Fix your Voice with Adobe Podcast AI Voice Enhancer?
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use the tool:
- Access the Tool:
- Open Adobe Podcast AI in your web browser and log in.
- Understanding Limitations:
- The free version has some limitations:
- Audio files only (video needs conversion).
- Maximum of 30 minutes per clip and 1 hour total per day.
- Maximum file size of 500 MB.
- The free version has some limitations:
- Uploading Audio:
- Drag and drop your audio file into the browser window.
- The file will be uploaded and processed before you can see the results, so it may take a few moments.
Testing Adobe Podcast Enhance Speech Tool
Once your audio file is processed, you’ll see two options: the original audio and the enhanced version.
Here’s how the Enhanced Speech tool performs with different types of audio clips:
1. Built-in Camera Microphone
Original Clip:
Recorded with a built-in camera microphone, the audio quality is poor and hollow.
Enhanced Speech Results:
- The tool improves the audio by adding depth and reducing hollowness.
- Though it’s not perfect, it significantly enhances the clip, making it more listenable.
2. Outdoor Recording with Background Noise
Original Clip:
Recorded outdoors, the audio includes distracting traffic noise.
Enhanced Speech Results:
The tool effectively removes the background noise, but the resulting audio sounds somewhat unnatural.
Combination Test:
Combining the enhanced audio with the original clip helps balance out the unnatural sound, making the result more usable.
3. Lapel Mic with Clothing Noise
Original Clip:
Contains noise from rustling clothing and mic bumps.
Enhanced Speech Results:
The tool addresses the noise to some extent, but adding EQ adjustments helps achieve a better result.
4. Outdoor Recording in Poor Weather
Original Clip:
Recorded in windy and rainy conditions, resulting in distorted audio.
Enhanced Speech Results:
The tool manages to clean up the audio but still leaves some artifacts.
The Modern Podcast Sound
I find with Adobe Podcast, they’re doing this kind of modern podcast thing with super bassy voices that often lack a little bit of clarity.
I end up counteracting that sometimes, so it’s not quite one click anymore. However, if I were to take that enhanced clip and even just get some EQ, it would sound more natural, kind of how I prefer it.
You can spend a lot of time and really tweak that up, getting it EQed how you like.
Maybe even add a little bit of reverb, because it tends to make the voice sound very dry and in-your-face, which can be a little unnatural depending on the camera angle.
You may have to work with it to really get it where you like it. But just what it can do with something that’s essentially unusable is impressive.
Use Advanced Features with the Paid Version:
The paid version of Adobe Podcast offers additional features:
1. Intensity Slider:
Allows you to adjust the strength of the enhancements.
You can preview different levels (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%) and choose the one that best fits your needs.
2. Batch Processing:
You can upload multiple files at once and apply changes to all of them in one go.
3. Video File Support:
Unlike the free version, the paid version supports video files directly.
Issues with the Slider
I’ve got this loaded up, but it took longer than I planned because I discovered that in Safari, the intensity slider doesn’t work. I got all the clips in, and they all sounded identical.
So, I switched to Chrome, and it works there.
I thought for a minute they had somehow broken the slider, but it’s just a Safari issue.
Now, having a look at it, I’ve got the original audio on track one, then 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% on the other tracks.
You can see it in the clip titles as well. Let’s listen through so you can hear how it gets incrementally stronger:
“I’m now taking a selfie video in public—slightly embarrassing—but we’ll see how it handles all the traffic noise.”
You can obviously hear that getting stronger as it goes along, and somewhere around 40% was actually sounding pretty good.
You can play with it and find where you like it. You don’t need to download six different versions; you can live-preview it.
I think that’s pretty helpful. Some of those lower settings are actually quite good, even down at 20%.
You can still start to hear some artifacts, but it’s more natural, so you can really dial in where you like each clip.
Final Thoughts:
Adobe Podcast AI Voice Enhancer is the best audio restoration and enhancement tool. While it might not replace high-quality recording equipment or thorough manual editing, it’s a useful tool for salvaging less-than-ideal audio recordings.
Pros:
- Useful for cleaning up problematic audio.
- Free version is surprisingly capable.
- Paid version offers additional features like batch processing and intensity adjustments.
Cons:
- May produce unnatural-sounding audio in some cases.
- The free version has limitations on file size and duration.
Overall, Adobe Podcast is a valuable tool for audio editing, especially when dealing with less-than-perfect recordings. If you’re looking to try it out, a 30-day free trial of the paid version is available, allowing you to explore its full capabilities.
